  DLNR NEWS RELEASE-UPDATE-KAUAI SPERM WHALE Posted on Jan 28, 2023 in  Latest Department News ,  Newsroom (KAPA‘A, KAUA‘I) – The cause of death of a 56-foot-long, 120,000-pound sperm whale, that appeared on the reef fronting Lydgate Park, won’t likely be determined for some time. Today, a pair of excavators, social bookmarking site list one large and one small, provided by Kaua‘i County, made numerous attempts to free the whale from the shoreline and move it onto the beach. High tide brought it to shore overnight. This afternoon, a large excavator from the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) joined the two county machines, in another attempt to free the massive animal from the shoreline, where it’s embedded in wet sand. Golden Retriever Farm

  A couple weeks ago, my husband and a group of volunteers joined an employee from our parks department to take Golden retriever Farm water samples from a creek in a nearby public park. John joined this group of volunteers last year, and twice a month, they visit parks to check the water quality and pick up trash along the way. This particular day, while the team waded through the icy stream, a giant, bridle mixed dog dashed up to the group. John said the dog was friendly, and they all started looking around to find the lost owner. They spotted the woman stretching on the other side of the bridge, her leash dangling in her hand. The parks employee got the woman’s attention and let her know that the park required her dog to be on leash. So, could she please call and leash her dog? The woman flipped off the parks employee.
